Description:		This year - 2009 - we will try something different: we will have ONE tea each day, Saturday and Sunday, February 7th and 8th, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. We are trying to please our customers by having more time and a more relaxed atmosphere. The cost remains at $20 a person and reservations are required. They open January 1, 2009.

Kempf House Museum, built in 1853, is an excellent example of the Greek Revival style. You are invited to visit the house, learn about Ann Arbor's early history, and see how the Kempfs lived in the 1800s.

Visitors to the Kempf House Museum will delight in seeing how a busy German-American family lived and worked in the 1890s. Trained guides will lead you through restored rooms, including the music studio where the 1877 Steinway Concert grand piano remains as it has for over 100 years. You will also hear about how Ann Arbor has grown into a prosperous city, a cultural center, and the home of the University of Michigan.

Weekend Tours: Kempf House is open for guided tours on Sundays, 1-4 p.m., Sept.-Dec. and Mar.-June, or by appointment. Admission is free. Donations are appreciated. Weekend tours will begin again on Sunday, March 1, 2009.

Making a Gift: It is now possible to make a gift to Kempf House at very little actual cost, due to tax credits.

Our Windows are Back!

All of our beautiful, original wood windows have now been fully restored. thanks to money left over in the last Parks Millage fund. Ypsilanti Restoration did an amazing job rehabilitating them and they are all now back in place. The treasured cast iron, anthemion pattern window grilles from upstairs will remain in storage for a little while longer while the board determines the best form of treatment.

Foundation Repairs Completed!

The one-story wing on the rear of the house was built sometime between 1866 and 1880. The wing's foundation, however, was made of crumbling concrete block dating to the early 20th century. On the advice of Tom Fitzpatrick, our consulting structural engineer, the foundation has now been replaced. The windows are back in place and the ground filled in. Once again Ypsilanti Restoration did a super job! Funds for the project came from our grant from the Downtown Development Authority.
